It is imperative here at Castleton that for every treatment we offer – all of our patients are provided with their own tailored treatment plan and a coordinator to explain the treatment and to assist you through your patient journey.

If there are any questions or concerns you have throughout your experience at Castleton – your treatment coordinator will be readily available and contactable via phone and email to answer any queries you may have.

Preventative Dentistry

Preventative Dentistry is the combination of routine dental check-ups, x-rays, fluoride treatments and cleanings. During these appointments you will also be advised on the most up-to-date dietry advice and efficient oral hygiene techniques to encourage you to prevent tooth decay and gum disease from home. It is the easiest way to avoid oral health issues and is key to maintaining a healthy mouth.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dentistry focusses on improving the appearance of your mouth and smile. This includes treatments such as veneers, composite bonding, crowns, teeth whitening, gum reshaping, orthodontics (Invisalign) , smile makeovers, implants and many more. These procedures are generally patient led as they help to make the mouth more aesthetically pleasing. At Castleton, we will ensure you are dentally fit and healthy prior to undertaking any cosmetic procedures.

Orthodontics

Castleton is proud to offer Invisalign with our dentist Lara Kriek. She is an Elite Invisalign provider and compliments Invisalign treatments with whitening and composite bonding to finalise complete smile makeovers. Invsialign is a method of orthodontics in which avoids unsightly “train tracks”, brackets and wires. Due to aligners being removable, eating remains a pleasurable experience. As with all orthodontics, your treatment will be reviewed at regular intervals.

Tooth Whitening

Using digital scans taken of your teeth, bespoke trays followed by detailed instruction of the whitening process are provided for you to complete from the comfort of your own home. Whitening treatments are usually followed up with a review appointment to monitor progress and patients can easily obtain top-up gel to maintain their pearly white smile.

Emergency Care

We offer emergency appointments to both new and current patients. We have allocated emergency space in our diary’s specifically for patients’ who are experiencing pain, discomfort or concern. During this appointment we work on alleviating your pain, resolving the issue at hand and providing the appropriate advice / treatment plan to proceed.

Dental Implants

An implant is a surgical procedure that replaces tooth roots with titanium screw-in posts that integrate with the jawbone. Eventually the bone around the implant grows and bonds with the implant to hold it securely in place. It puts artificial teeth that look and function like real teeth, in place of those that are damaged. We offer these with our visiting implantologist Caoimhe Doherty. There is an initial consultation followed by discusson and planning of treatment.

Treatments

Examinations

We offer full comprehensive examinations including radiographs and detailed oral hygiene advice for the whole family.

Cosmetic Fillings

We offer cosmetic white fillings here at Castleton. These are tooth coloured fillings made of composite resin. These are completed in one appointment; any existing decay is eliminated, and the composite is placed in layers to ensure precision on finishing the procedure. The filling will then be shaped and adjusted to fit the contours of the teeth, allowing the patient to bite comfortably. The appointment will finish by the filling being polished to prevent staining and early wear.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal is a treatment where the pulp (nerve) of the tooth is removed and replaced with an alternative material known as gutta percha. This treatment is ideal if an infection has made its way into the pulp of the tooth (pulpitis) and can save the tooth from having to be extracted. The infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal) is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and invade the tooth. This can happen from tooth decay, leaky fillings, or damage to a tooth as a result of trauma, such as a fall. Symptoms of pulpitis can include pain when eating or drinking hot and cold food and drink and pain when biting or chewing. It is usually recommended to have a crown placed following root canal treatment to ensure the best success rate.

Extractions

An extraction is a procedure where a tooth is removed. This can be a result of tooth decay, trauma, or failed root canal treatment. The dentist will make sure you are comfortable throughout and will give you post operative instructions following the extraction both verbally and in the written form.

Dentures

A denture is a removable plate attached to false teeth. Dentures are used to restore function, stability, and aesthetics of the mouth. A denture can come in two different materials; acrylic and chrome. A chrome denture is a little bit pricier but provides extra stability. However, an acrylic denture is still a good alternative and a great option to replace gaps in the mouth. Aftercare instructions will be given to you by our dentists, and they will ensure that you are happy, and that the denture is comfortable.

Fissure Sealants

A sealant is a protective plastic coating which is applied to the biting surface of the back teeth. The sealant forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the naturally occurring grooves in the teeth and causing decay. A dentist will recommend sealants if the grooves are deeper than normal or risk factors such as plaque on the teeth or a sugar containing diet. Fissure sealants are usually done on children as their adult teeth come through.

Invisalign

Invisalign might seem as if it’s been an option in the orthodontic toolbox for a long time, but the company that started it isn’t even twenty years old, and even then, it took a little while for the idea of using Invisalign’s clear plastic trays to catch on. According to the Invisalign website, Invisalign now accounts for 6% of teen orthodontics and an impressive 31% of adult orthodontics. The aligners are manufactured so that teeth will typically move in small increments, so when you put a new aligner in, the teeth in the tray itself are slightly straighter than your teeth are. This puts pressure on your teeth, so that over the course of the week, your teeth will move to match the aligner.

Hygienist (GBT)

We now offer a new type of cleaning technique called Guided Biofilm Therapy. This process includes using a disclosing tablet on the teeth, enabling the hygienists to advise and aid the areas of brushing you can improve on, following with new, state-of-the-art technology from Switzerland that uses a combination of air, powder and water which essentially jet washes the teeth. The process can also involve ultrasonic scaling and hand scaling in order to receive the highest quality dental clean.

Healthy Gums

Gum disease, or gingivitis and periodontal disease, affects the gums, bone, and other supporting tissues of the teeth. It is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria which collects on the teeth. Treatment is managed by your dentist who may refer you to the hygienist for basic treatment or the periodontist for more advanced treatment.

Mouth Cancer Screening

Early detection of mouth cancer gives you a better chance of survival. At Castleton we carry out oral cancer screening for all our patients as part of their regular dental check-up. Warning signs include lumps, bleeding, coughing up blood or slow healing ulcers inside the mouth or throat. If you have any concerns, contact us for an appointment.

Implants

An implant is a surgical procedure that replaces tooth roots with titanium screw-in posts that integrate with the jawbone. Eventually the bone around the implant grows and bonds with the implant to hold it securely in place, this is known as osseo-integration.

Implants are artificial teeth that look and function like real teeth in place of those that are broken or damaged. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed replacement teeth that blend with existing.

Tooth Whitening

One of our most popular treatments is tooth whitening. This simple, non-invasive procedure can brighten your smile, leaving you looking years younger and beaming with confidence. We recommend home whitening systems that show a difference in three weeks but last up to three years.

Smile Makeovers

A great smile can make a huge difference to the way you look and feel. Your smile makeover will start with a detailed consultation where we will discuss and plan the various treatment options available. Our aim is to give you the perfect smile and your confidence back.

Crowns

A crown (sometimes referred to as a cap) is a type of tooth restoration that covers teeth that have been broken or weakened by decay. Crowns are usually completed in 2 relatively short appointments. An intricate impression is taken of the tooth prior to preparation in order to encapsulate a perfect mould of the tooth to prepare the perfect temporary crown. The tooth is then prepared, and a temporary crown is then placed on the tooth and is adjusted further to ensure it is comfortable and aligns with the rest of your bite. We will then book another appointment allowing sufficient time for the dental laboratory to make the permanent crown ready for fitting (this is usually around 2-3 weeks). In the second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed, and the permanent crown will be cemented onto the underlying tooth. The bite will then be adjusted further to accommodate a perfect bite.

Onlays / Inlays

Both of these restorations are similar to crowns with slight differences. The chewing surfaces of the back teeth are more vulnerable to developing cavities and cracks. Smaller areas of decay are filled in with composite fillings, however, larger areas of decay cannot be filled with composite filling, as the material is not strong enough. The preparation for an inlay or an onlay is similar to that of a crown but on a smaller scale. The inlay/onlay is then formed in a laboratory to fit exactly into the cavity and is bonded and cemented into place. An inlay is designed to repair the top part of a molar tooth whereas an onlay is a little bigger. An inlay/onlay can be made from a variety of different materials including composite resins, porcelain, or gold.

Veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth coloured porcelain or resin composite placed over an existing tooth to improve its appearance. Each veneer is individually crafted by dental technicians to enhance the appearance of teeth by straightening misaligned teeth, covering stained teeth, or improving the aesthetics of broken teeth. Veneers are generally completed in two moderately quick and minimally invasive appointments.

Bridges

A bridge incorporates an artificial tooth, called a pontic which takes the place of the missing tooth. The pontic is secured by one or more crowns, which are bonded to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. Placing a bridge normally takes two dental visits. Depending on your needs, one or more teeth may be prepared to hold the bridge. The dentist will make sure you are happy with the bite and aesthetics of the bridge before you leave.
