General dentistry

We are a modern dentist practice in the centre of Farnham, Surrey that provides great overall dental treatments and preventative oral hygiene to all of our patients.

Please note that it is of paramount importance that we update your medical history upon arrival of every appointment.

Oral health check

Our routine dental examinations give us the opportunity to check for any potential problems, including dental decay or erosion, gum disease and more serious issues such as mouth cancer. During a check up, we will discuss a treatment plan with you and agree the type and cost of treatment before we begin.

We offer both mercury-free white fillings and silver amalgam fillings to our patients. White fillings are made from modern, tooth-coloured materials so look as realistic as possible. White fillings can also be used to replace your old silver amalgam fillings.

A dental crown fits over the remaining part of a tooth helping to strengthen it and make it look like a whole, natural tooth. There are a number of reasons why we might recommend a crown: severe tooth decay, weak or damaged tooth, or following root canal treatment.

Bridges are a permanent, false tooth which is held in place by the teeth next to it. It is usually made of a precious metal base, such as gold, and bonded to two neighbouring teeth via a crown. Your dentist might recommend a bridge if you have a large gap in your teeth, your teeth are moving or you don’t want a denture.

White fillings

For a natural, realistic look we use modern, tooth-coloured white fillings so no-one can tell you have them. They are mercury-free and are very popular with our patients. We can also use white fillings to replace your old silver amalgam fillings.

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is when the nerve system, or pulp, within the tooth becomes infected. This is usually because of decay or injury. It is a long treatment which usually means two or three visits to have the pulp removed, the canal reshaped and filled.

Modern dentures look realistic, fit better and are a simple, cost effective way of replacing missing teeth. Dentures can be partial and fitted around your own natural teeth, or they can be full dentures if you have lost all of your own. Dentures can be made of plastic or with a metal framework.

Sports guards

We can provide custom-made mouth guards which fit comfortably and snugly over your teeth to give the maximum protection possible while taking part in contact sports such as boxing, rugby or martial arts. Our pricing starts from around £70. Our current offer for Yateley Hockey club we are offering mouth guards for £45 please call reception to book in with Matt Golightly.

Fissure sealants

A sealant is a protective plastic coating which is applied to the biting surface of the back teeth. The sealant forms a hard shield that keeps food and bacteria from getting into the naturally occurring grooves in the teeth and causing decay. A dentist will recommend sealants if the grooves are deeper than normal or risk factors such as plaque on the teeth or a sugar containing diet

One of our most popular treatments is tooth whitening. This simple procedure can brighten your smile, leaving you looking years younger and beaming with confidence. We recommend home whitening systems that show a difference in three weeks but last up to three years.

Advanced dentistry

Our wide range of advanced and cosmetic dental treatments can solve a range of problems such as stained or discoloured teeth, chipped, cracked or misaligned teeth. At Castleton dental practice we want you to feel confident about your smile.

Smile makeover

A great smile can make a huge difference to the way you look and feel. Your smile makeover will start with a detailed consultation where we will discuss and plan the various treatment options available. Our aim is to give you the perfect smile and your confidence back.

FREE 15 minute Implant Consultation - Dental implants are anchored permanently into the jaw, replacing the tooth's own root – just like natural teeth. The implant itself is a titanium post inserted into the gum. Eventually the bone around the implant grows and bonds with the implant to hold it securely in place.

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth to improve the appearance of teeth and make them look natural and healthy. A dentist might recommend a veneer if a tooth is chipped or if there are a number of crooked or discoloured teeth.

TMJ (headaches/jaw problems)

The temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint connecting your lower jaw and your skull. TMJ may cause pain and discomfort for a number of reasons such as misalignment or incorrect biting. Your dentist can advise you on the best course of action including night guards, diet and exercises.

We believe that prevention is the most important role in dentistry which is why we will work with you on a dental health plan suited to your needs.

Hygiene services

We have a team of fully-qualified hygienists on site who can provide treatment and advice to ensure long-term healthy teeth and gums. As well as saving money, you can save your teeth by: brushing twice a day, flossing, reducing your sugar intake and attending regular check-ups.

Healthy gums

Gum disease, or gingivitis and periodontal disease, affects the gums, bone and other supporting tissues of the teeth. It is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria which collects on the teeth. Treatment is managed by your dentist who may refer you to the hygienist for basic treatment or the periodontist for more advanced treatment.

Sensitive teeth

Sensitive teeth can cause mild irritation or severe discomfort. The reason for the sensitivity can range from brushing too hard, receding gums or the erosion of the enamel. It can also be a sign of serious dental problems. If you suffer from sensitive teeth, please speak to one of our dentists.

Children’s teeth

To develop good dental practice from a young age, we encourage parents to register their children as soon as their teeth start appearing. We focus on preventative dentistry and will show children how to establish a thorough dental regime to prevent decay and disease.

Mouth cancer screening

Early detection of mouth cancer gives you a better chance of survival. At Castleton we carry out oral cancer screening for all our patients as part of their regular dental check-up. Warning signs include lumps, bleeding, coughing up blood or slow healing ulcers inside the mouth or throat. If you have any concerns, contact us for an appointment.

  • Do you have wonky teeth?
  • Have you always wanted to improve your smile?
  • Have your teeth reverted to how they were before you had orthodontics?
  • Does your child not qualify for National Health orthodontics?

At Castleton Dental, our associate dentist Matt Golightly offers a full range of orthodontic solutions to solve most problems. He trained with the IAS Academy, recently completing their advanced year course and would like to train for a Masters degree in the future. We can offer all types of braces from –

  • Clear aligners (similar Invisalign)
  • Removable braces – Inman aligner
  • Traditional fixed braces – metal ‘train tracks’
  • Cosmetic fixed braces – using the latest ceramic brackets and tooth coloured wires which have a much more discreet appearance.

It can be difficult as a patient to decide which type of treatment would best suit your needs, so Matt is happy to see patients for a free initial assessment to explain the choices on offer and which he thinks would best suit your case.

Childrens braces

Provision of NHS orthodontics is limited to more severe problems based on a scoring system. Where your child isn’t eligible for NHS orthodontics, Matt can provide a cost-effective alternative privately which is often not as costly as you might think. Book them in for a free initial assessment to discuss their options.

Adult braces

We often hear from patients that they think it is too late to do anything about their crooked teeth, but this is often not the case. In most cases, it is worth doing something about it. Book in for a free initial assessment to discuss your options.

It has been found that if the teeth aren’t held in their new position by retainers then the teeth can relapse back towards where they were before. Matt finds that the best way to ensure good retention is with both fixed and removable retainers and its important to realise that this applies for as long as you want straight teeth.

The Process

  • A free initial assessment will give us a good idea whether orthodontics is the correct treatment for yourself or your child.
  • Full assessment – a full set of records including an in depth assessment, models of your teeth and pictures are taken. Cost – £150
  • Treatment plan – Matt can then formulate a treatment plan which is presented to you in writing at another meeting when we can decide on whether you’d like to proceed.
  • The treatment – orthodontic treatment can take 12-18 months to complete depending how bad they were in the first place. Simple cases can often be done within a few months.
  • Retention – retainers are made for your new smile.
  • Review – the results can either be monitored by Matt or by your usual dentist.

final set of pictures are taken to show what a great result we’ve had!

The Cost

However you look at it dentistry and, in particular, orthodontics is not cheap. The good news, however, is that the fees are paid in instalments over the duration of your treatment. For a typical fixed brace case the payments are broken down as follows –

  • Assessment – £150
  • Braces on – £1000-1500 (depending on the case)
  • Review – you or your child comes for a review every 6 weeks and £150 is taken at each appointment until either the payments are all made or the orthodontics is complete, whichever comes first
  • Retainers – payment for retainers is made when this part of the treatment is complete

We can also offer interest free finance options through Medenta which means no large lump sums to come up with. Ask Matt or the Reception team for more details.

Fee Guide

This is a basic fee guide outlining the typical costs involved for each type of treatment. Costs very depending on the severity of the problem and a written quotation is provided for every patient before treatment commences. All costs include retainers (both fixed and removable).

  • Clear aligners – from £1800
  • Inman aligner – £1800 each
  • Metal braces – £3000 one jaw only or £3500 for both
  • Cosmetic braces – £3500 one jaw only or £4000 for both
